NZ Juniors

It's all over. The hardwork has paid off and FAST had a really successful weekend.

Ria is an amazing coach, she should be so proud of herself, I know all of us at the club are very proud of her, and FAST is getting noticed by the other clubs.

FAST finished the weekend with 96 points, placing 27th best club in NZ out of 87 Clubs that attended, this doesn't include all the other clubs that didn't send any swimmers.

This is FAST's third NZ Juniors. In 2013 we sent one swimmer with one swim. In 2014 we sent 6 swimmers with 23 swims, but didn't score any points. This year we sent 10 swimmers with 44 swims, scored 96 points and gained 2 medals. What progress!!

Our coaching philosophy is clearly paying off. We can get top swimmers to Nationals by focussing on technique without making the children do massive hours in the pool at an early age. We know that as our hours increase this year for our older swimmers we will be even more competitive next year.

On to our wonderful swimmers.

Every swimmer achieved at least one pb, with Nathan pb'ing in every event, well done Nathan!!!!

Brandon (12) came 8th in the 50m Breast, had 3 other top 20 placings and scored 6 points for the club.

Nathan (11) gained a bronze medal in the 100m Free, 6th in the 50m Free, 6th in the 200m Free, 8th in the 50m back, had one other top 20 finish and scored 43 points for the club.

Elizabeth (10) put the disappointment behind her of being dq'd in the 100m fly having come first, by gaining a bronze medal in the 200m IM, 4th in the 50m fly, 6th in the 200m back, 8th in the 50m back, had 4 other top 20 placings and scored 47 points for the club.

Nathan has qualified to attend a Swimming NZ three day development camp with Ria. This camp is for any 11 or 12 year old swimmer that gained a medal at NZ Juniors in one or more 100m/200m event. This is fantastic, not only for Nathan who will be swimming with all the other top NZ swimmers but also for the Club as Ria will be mixing with the other top Coaches in the Country.

Erin added the 200m breaststroke to her Division II qualifying times.

Brandon became our first NAGS swimmer, qualifying with the 50m breaststroke.

It was clear at the weekend that FAST is a team in every sense. Every swimmer was cheered on by all the other children and their parents. We shared every triumph and every disappointment.

Congratulations to us all!!!!
